Research undertaken by the e3 Partnership in 2013 shows that adult learners want flexibility and tailored learning programmes that help them gain a range of practical skills whilst learning English. Activities should include opportunities for volunteering with local community groups and schools, community gardening projects, healthy eating and enterprise projects.
Comments made by adult learners we canvassed include
“I want to make sure my children eat healthy food – so I need to learn English so I can get involved at the local community garden” Aisha
“I want to learn English so I can do better on my Brick Lane market stall” Iyanna
“I want to be more involved in my children’s education and I want to learn English so I can become a school governor” Ayan
There’s a lot of interest in becoming involved in kids’ education – we were spot on with the movie :)!
